I have been going through something no one who is over 65 should have go through! In July and August of 2019, Old Age Security of Canada shorted my pension by $359.17. I phoned a lot in those two months informing them that they had short changed me. I finally got back to normal in September of 2019 when I was only shorted by $2.40 cents so I did not bother OAS that month. For the next 3 months of October, November, and December according to the OAS I scheduled to get $266.66 extra but they decided I should pay them back $80.00 all three months so I ended up getting only $186.66 extra.
My problem with the OAS is that back in July of 2019 they should never have touched my pension. They claimed it was because my income was larger. For their wiseacre attitude on the phone, in the mail and on my cheques shall soon be shown as people who obviously need to take a rest between cases and check their damn work.
The woman said on the phone, once I had the information sent in (again) I would probably get the proper corrections (rightful cheque) in February. All I can say is that these people didn't phone me and tell me in July or August that my pension was being hijacked nor did they inform me in October, November or December when it was hijacked the third, fourth, and fifth time. It seems just fine to the wiseacres at OAS, that I should wait for more than 7 months for them to fix their mistake. Mind you for every month that goes by I seem to be getting further and further behind with my bills.
Dear Readers you must understand this one thing. If you think that retirement is made up of Golden years without a bureaucratic hiccup you are badly mistaken! That is the nature of government. That being said this is what I need to say. People at OAS please show more good etiquette than you have prior to this rant, and make sure I get the right amount of money in January. That is $194.66 more than I got in December and that amount every month after that ad nauseam. I plan to be around for a long time so please Dearest OAS don't mess with me again!
*It looks like they are keeping me on hold until the end of February. At that time they said they are going to give my full pension along with the money they owe me from 8 months of shorting me. With any luck I shall be able to catch up on every thing and budget with aplomb once again. Government is really so fast in messing one's finances up and slow on fixing it. Oh well, I guess it is on with the "Golden Years".
